Mark Dutton Art
I am a multimedia sculptor from Cambridge currently living in Carmarthen and doing an artist in residency at Carmarthen school of art, south Wales. My work is inspired by the forms found in nature and the cosmos. From a tiny cell to a giant space warping black hole, certain patterns and shapes repeat themselves at vastly different scales. I like working with a variety of mediums such as wood, iron, bronze, plaster and 3D printed plastic. I use digital making technology as well as traditional wood carving and metal casting to effectively realise my imagination into substance.
By combining old and new ways of making I seek to broaden the capabilities of modern technology to develop crafting. This also allows me to work with materials of contrasting colour and texture, and opens up possibilities for new ways of combining different media. Our old ways of living are being changed by advancing technologies, and I want this paradigm shift to be reflected in how I make my work.
